Our flight from Chicago was an hour late. Something about the boarding pass system not working so well. It had Maureen remembering (i.e. longing for) the olden days when there was a paper list of names that got checked off with a pen. The curious thing about leaving late is that chances are really good that you arrive late. There are exceptions, if you get a good tail wind or something.
We apparently had no such tail wind. We arrived in Paris late enough (2:30 a.m. Wisconsin time) to miss our flight. We were hopeful that we would get a 1:45 pm (Paris time) flight, but it only had three available seats, and we weren't splitting us the Troop. So, we are currently scheduled for a 4:10 pm flight.
We received food vouchers, and the Girls have enjoyed their first French meal. Okay, it all looked perfectly American, but everything in France is French. Trees, for example, and posts. Paigie and Melissa were having that conversation; it wasn't just me. The Girls were somewhat disgruntled that our time in London has been reduced, but they seem to have moved thru their sleep-deprivation-induced crankiness into a sense of adventure. Washing up, changing clothes, adding some make up may have helped. They're currently milling around the Charles de Gaulle Airport ... looking at purses they can't afford and boys they can't really talk to. Actually, I have no idea what they're doing, but they're together and know where to find us.
Jules and Maureen are learning all there is to know about the phone system here as they try to make contact with our tour director, Rosalie. EF Tour folks know all about delayed flights and missed connections, and they monitor the flights their travelers are on, so chances are good she already knows. Kristi tried to nap on a cushioned bench in the food court, trying to catch up on some sleep that eluded her (and most of the Troop) on the plane last night. It will be interesting to see what happens later today: Will we get a second wind? Will we all get super-silly? Or will we just crash? It's really anybody's guess!
Before we board the plane, the whole Troop will try their hand at the ATMs here, and see if we can't figure out how to withdraw some Euros. We're trying to use our time wisely. If we get the money now (when we have hours to fill), we won't have to spend time doing it when we return in a few days. We're also going to check in with AirFrance and confirm our seats on the 4:10 flight, and I can't do that and blog.
More from London ...
